Win-Door North America 2013 provides
one-stop shop for window and door
manufacturers and installers
STAFF WRITER – The Ontario Construction Report Special Feature
Set For November 12 -14 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre,
Win-Door North America is a one-stop shop for the window and door man-
ufacturing industry, hosted by Fenestration Canada.
Show chair Matt Kottke says the show, as always, focuses on exhibitors
and attendees representing window and door manufacturers and suppliers.
“This is a chance for the exhibitors to introduce new products and tech-
nologies,” he said. “Win-Door is a powerful and very specific tool for the
industry. We expect between 2,600 and 3,000 attendees, the entire Cana-
dian industry. Visitors will be able to take advantage of a great lineup of
timely topics as part of our educational components and seminars, includ-
ing the always popular financial forecast and analysis, as well code updates
and technical presentations.”
Win-Door offers attendees opportunities to learn about building code
changes, something that is also a current Fenestration Canada focus.
Skip MacLean of Tru Tech Doors, Fenestration Canada’s president,
says the association has been presenting seminars for door hangers
throughout Ontario (the code has been adopted in the province and com-
pliance requirements take effect in January). “We’ve sold out in Ottawa,
London and Toronto,” he says.
“There is a lot of interest and a significant amount of misinformation
regarding the upcoming code changes. Building codes are complex, setting
out many variables and conditions related to the performance of windows
and doors. The changes create both challenges and opportunities for fab-
ricators and component suppliers.”
Changes to the Ontario Building Code and NAFS-08 (North American
Fenestration Standard), will impact window and door fabricators, sellers
and renovators across the province, so MacLean says this update and recap
at Win-Door will likely be a big draw. Manufacturers will also use the
event to introduce several new products to address the problems and chal-
lenges created by the new codes.
Exhibitor surveys after the last show indicate a strong interest in the
industry’s technical aspects, so Win-Door and Fenestration Canada will
continue its focus on education, energy savings and marketing programs.
“At the Fenestration Canada AGM in May there was also interest ex-
pressed in creating a Fabricators Council. That feedback has been taken
into account by the association,” Maclean said. “A council has been formed
and the first face-to-face meeting will take place at the show.” The council
is intended as a vehicle for fabricators to address issues related to the in-
dustry, as well as to provide solutions and support.
