WATERLOO REGION (April 24, 2014) – The Waterloo Region Home Builders’ Association (WRHBA)
welcomed a stellar crowd of who’s who at their 23rd Annual Industry Luncheon, featuring the fearless Jon
Montgomery – Olympic Gold Medalist and Host of The Amazing Race Canada.
WRHBA’s Industry Luncheon is the Association’s most prestigious and highly attended annual networking
event, synonymous with uniting professionals from all sectors of the residential development and
construction industry. This year, Association Presidents from the local, provincial and national levels joined
over 640 guests including dozens of elected officials and numerous community leaders to network, take up
industry news, hear a powerhouse address from Montgomery and have their photos taken alongside this
beloved Canadian icon.
Attendees conjured their National Pride for the Canadian-themed event; flags were waved and hearts were
filled by the story of a small town boy with the tenacity and grit to beat all odds and bring home an Olympic
Gold. Jon welcomed all in attendance to try on his Gold Medal; guests went home with not only the
recollection of what it feels like to be an Olympic champion, but with a once in a lifetime chance to hold a
piece of Canadian history in their hands. Other lucky guests departed with Montgomery’s inspirational
words, a signed Canadian flag or two, and of course, a few “selfies” with the Olympian.
David Reid of Hawksview Homes Ltd. rose to the challenge of a live auction and left with a signed photo
and beer pitcher, complete with LCBO gift card – auctioned off by Montgomery, who hoisted a pitcher of
beer during his infamous walk through Whistler, BC after having won gold! The $1,000 raised will join the
thousands more raised by WRHBA in support of their charity of choice, Ray of Hope. Funds will offset costs
associated with their recently completed renovation conducted by WRHBA and its dedicated members.
Douglas Stewart, of Stantec Consulting Ltd. and a longstanding active committee member at all three levels
of the home builders’ association took home the prestigious 2013 CHBA Maple Leaf Award; the
Association’s highest ranked award for a non-builder associate member.
The exciting top notch afternoon was complete with powerhouse networking, industry happenings, great
food, laughter, excellent company and a high energy speaker; all in all this year’s Industry Luncheon lived
up to the hype. Make sure to register early if you wish to join in next year, as tables sell quickly.
WRHBA would like to thank all of its generous sponsors and volunteers who made this day a success;
without their support, this event would not be possible.
