                Best buildings and infrastructure projects to be recognized at OGCA symposium

    The 2013 Ontario Builder Awards will be presented at the Ontario General Contractors Association’s (OGCA) eighth Construction Symposium April 12 at Blue Mountain Resort, Collingwood.

    Winning contractor representatives and their construction teams have been invited to the symposium dinner.

    Applicants submitted nominations based on their latest and greatest projects, which reached substantial completion between January 2010 and November 30, 2012. Submissions required project narratives and commendation letters from owners, prime consultants and key sub-trades. Categories included buildings (commercial, institutional or industrial) and industrial and civil infrastructure, with different awards for smaller and larger projects.

    Judges focused on building rather than architectural merit. Winners and honouable mentions include:

    Category 1, Buildings

    Winner: Bradanick Construction Services Inc., Orillia — Common Roof

    Honourable mention: Schilthuis Construction Inc., Ancaster — Dunnville Memorial Arena

    Category 2, Buildings

    Winner: Timbro Design Build Contractors, Welland –Welland Toyota Dealership

    Honourable Mention:  Gateman-Milloy Inc., Kitchener — Region of Waterloo International Airport, Combined Services Facility

    Category 2, Industrial

    Winner: Timbro Design Build Contractors, Welland — Welded Tube of Canada

    Honourable mention: Timbro Design Build Contractors, Welland –Thurston Machine Steel Fabrication Shop Additions

    Category 3, Buildings

    Winner: Remo General Contracting Ltd., Brampton — Mount Pleasant Village Public School and Cultural Amenity Space

    Honourable mention: McKay-Cocker Construction Ltd., London — Blue Water Bridge Corporate Centre

    Category 3, Industrial

    Winner: Rutherford Contracting Ltd., Aurora — Lakeside Park Redevelopment

    Honourable mention: McKay-Cocker Construction Ltd., London — Charley Fox Memorial Overpass

    Category 4, Buildings

    Winner: Bird Construction, Toronto; Ontario Provincial Police Modernization

    Honourable mentions: Bird Construction, Toronto — Burlington Performing Arts Centre; Eastern Construction Company Limited, Toronto — University of Toronto, Rotmam School of Management Expansion; Ball Construction Ltd., Kitchener — Addition to Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics; Pomerleau Inc., Toronto — York University, Glendon Campus, Centre of Excellence for French Language and Bilingual Postsecondary Education.

    Category 4, Industrial

    Winner: Alberici Constructors, Ltd., Burlington –Woodward Avenue Water Treatment Plant Restoration

    Honourable mention: Alberici Constructors, Ltd., Burlington — Hillcrest Reservoir Site Conditioning and Upgrades
