On August 11, repair work has started to address drainage concerns at the West Orillia Sports Complex and Rotary Place.
“As with any large construction project, there have been a number of construction and material deficiencies that have been addressed at the West Orillia Sports Complex and Rotary Place since the recreational facility was commissioned in September, 2010,” said Ray Merkley, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture.
The large natural turf field and the concrete at the building’s entrance have been determined to require remediation. The turf field has been prone to significant drainage issues. Replacement of the sod and the use of a different soil mix will enable proper drainage. The replacement will also help the natural turf obtain its level 2 classification for sports fields.
Replacement of the turf field is scheduled to be completed by October, 2014.
The repairs are being completed as deficiencies under warranty at no cost to the city, and are expected to address all of the outstanding construction concerns.
