{"id":8633,"date":"2018-06-17T20:15:25","date_gmt":"2018-06-17T20:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ontarioconstructionreport.com\/?p=8633"},"modified":"2018-06-17T20:15:25","modified_gmt":"2018-06-17T20:15:25","slug":"construction-for-sudburys-pet-scan-suite-starts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ontarioconstructionreport.com\/construction-for-sudburys-pet-scan-suite-starts\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction for Sudbury&#8217;s PET scan suite starts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It takes some northern Ontario residents a long way to travel just to get a PET scan, but that&#8217;s about to change soon.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>positron emission tomography<\/strong> (PET) scans for cancerous tissues and cells that might not show up through other methods and construction on a new extension to house the machine has begun at <strong>Health Sciences North<\/strong> in Sudbury, according to the <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/sudbury\/pet-scan-sudbury-hospital-cancer-1.4704332\">CBC<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The late\u00a0Sam Bruno\u00a0began raising awareness and funds for a PET scan machine before he died of cancer in 2010. The foundation which bears his name has raised\u00a0$3.8 million to make the nearly $9 million project become a reality. The\u00a0Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Health and Care contributed\u00a0$4.6 million for the project.<\/p>\n<p>Ontario has also announced a commitment of $1.6 million in annual operational funding for the scanner.<\/p>\n<p>A hospital spokesperson said the first patient scan should take place next summer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It takes some northern Ontario residents a long way to travel just to get a PET scan, but that&#8217;s about to change soon.
