The Ottawa Hospital Foundation has announced a $20-million donation from the family of Kris Singhal, marking one of the largest healthcare gifts in the city’s history.
The donation, announced Nov. 27, will support the hospital’s “Campaign to Create Tomorrow,” which aims to build a new health and research centre intended to reshape patient care for future generations.
Kris Singhal is the founder of Richcraft. The gift was made on behalf of Singhal, his wife Manju, and their daughters Monica and Angela4. In recognition of the donation, a building at the new hospital campus on Carling Avenue will be named in the family’s honour.
“Our family supports the hospital because we believe in healthcare’s power to change lives,” said Monica and Angela Singhal in a statement released by the foundation. “We hope our contribution brings hope and healing to those in our community”7.
Tim Kluke, president and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, described the gift as a historic moment for the city.
“The Singhal family’s extraordinary generosity will shape the future of care in our region,” Kluke said. “It’s a powerful example of how philanthropy drives innovation and enables us to deliver the very best care to patients and families today and for generations to come.”
With this donation, the hospital’s fundraising campaign has reached $396 million of its $500-million goal.
