The Ontario government has awarded millions of dollars to municipalities across the province after they met or exceeded their 2025 housing targets, with London, Richmond Hill, Kingston and Peterborough among the largest recipients in the latest round of the Building Faster Fund.
The third round of funding rewards municipalities that achieved at least 80 per cent of their provincially assigned housing targets. The money is intended to help pay for infrastructure needed to support new housing and growing communities:
- London received more than $11.2 million after breaking ground on 4,224 new homes in 2025.
- Richmond Hill received the largest grant among the municipalities announced this week, receiving $5.94 million after breaking ground on 2,228 homes, or 83 per cent of its annual target.
- Kingston will receive $3.2 million after construction began on 1,011 homes, exceeding its target by 26 per cent.
- Peterborough was awarded $1.7 million after recording 545 housing starts, 16 per cent above its target.
- Greater Sudbury will receive $1.3 million after breaking ground on 433 homes, exceeding its target by 14 per cent
- Belleville will receive $1.24 million after starting work on 418 homes, nearly 35 per cent above its target.
- Sault Ste. Marie received $600,000 after posting one of the province’s strongest performances, with construction beginning on 302 homes, 101 per cent above its assigned target.
Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Rob Flack said the funding recognizes municipalities that are increasing housing supply while helping finance the infrastructure needed to support continued growth.
Announced in 2023, the Building Faster Fund is a three-year, $1.2-billion program that provides grants to municipalities that meet at least 80 per cent of their annual housing targets. The province says the funding can be used for infrastructure projects that support housing development and growing communities.
