Infrastructure Ontario and Stevenson Memorial Hospital have issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for the redevelopment project, the first step in the process to select a team to build an expansion that will triple the size of the hospital and replace some of its acute care areas.
RFQ submissions will be reviewed to shortlist teams with the required construction experience, as well as the financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and complexity.
Shortlisted teams will then be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP), which is expected to be published in early 2025. Interested companies must register on merx.com to download the RFQ.
The project is being delivered using a Design-Bid-Build model. The architect and engineers of record, under contract to Stevenson Memorial Hospital, are completing the design documents. This RFQ is to select a contractor to deliver the project based on these designs.
“We are thrilled to see the project advance to this phase where we are starting the procurement process for a contractor to build our much-needed expansion,” says Barbara Steed, interim president and CEO, Stevenson Memorial Hospital. “I know our staff, physicians, volunteers and community members are eager for a new, modernized facility to provide and receive health care services close to home.”
The Stevenson Memorial Hospital project includes a wrap-around expansion to its current facility. A number of clinical areas will be expanded and enhanced, including:
- Emergency Department
- Laboratory
- Medical/Surgical (inpatient unit)
- Diagnostic Imaging
- Surgical Suite
- Obstetrics (Birthing unit)
- Pharmacy
- Medical Device Reprocessing
- Environmental Services
- Materials Management
“The redevelopment project will help meet the healthcare needs of a growing population, while improving the quality of life of residents throughout the region,” said Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure. “Our government is pressing forward with an ambitious plan to upgrade the province’s infrastructure, as we build a stronger, healthier and more resilient Ontario for generations to come.”
The design features significant use of natural light, modern design, enhanced parking and new and refreshed gardens and green spaces. A new, elevated helipad will also be a part of the project. An early works project is also being undertaken to prepare the site for the new construction. Once complete, the redeveloped Stevenson Memorial Hospital will ensure patients and families in New Tecumseth and surrounding areas can continue to connect to the high-quality care they need in their growing community for years to come.
