Bau-Tec Industries began in 2009 as a one-person welding and assembling shop. The company has expanded both its equipment and scope of work.

Located in rural Linwood, just northwest of Kitchener-Waterloo, the company serves the construction and agricultural industries.

The company’s rural location also means it is able to provide better-than-average pricing to its customers, including its growing curtain wall clientele, said owner Ei Bauman.

“Our location means we have lower overhead than our competitors located in more urban centres,” he said. “Even with added transportation costs to get products to their destination, our prices are still lower.”

Bauman says Bau-Tec uses 3D-CAD software, which allows it to modify existing drawings or design new products, providing fast turnaround time and detailed custom designs which lead to product accuracy.

“We strive to provide our customers with real solutions that work in many unique applications,” he said. “Our ability to succeed in producing custom pieces is especially important to our curtain wall clients who rely on our anchor systems being manufactured to precise specifications.”

The company’s services include mig and tig welding, spot welding, forming, shearing, laser cutting and hole punching. The company also recently added a milling machine.

Bau-Tec has grown over its short history primarily through word-of-mouth. Its list of customers includes Applewood Glass & Mirror, Westmounte Storefront Systems, Merit Glass, and Gage Aluminum and Glass.
