Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area (GTA) announced the launch of its 14th annual Gingerbread Build campaign and Gingerbread Build event scheduled for December 3 and 4 at Toronto City Hall.
To raise funds intended to help families secure safe, decent and affordable housing, Habitat for Humanity GTA is taking pre-orders for its $50 gourmet gingerbread house kit. Suggested uses for the houses include personal and office use, or donation to a family living in “one of the many homeless shelters in the GTA to bring them a little holiday cheer this season.”
A media release announcing the event quotes CEO Habitat for Humanity GTA, Ene Underwood, as saying: “Building a gingerbread house has become a holiday tradition for thousands of families in the GTA. The Habitat for Humanity Gingerbread Build is a fun and heart-warming way for families, friends or colleagues to celebrate the holidays together while knowing that they’re also helping working, low-income families in the GTA to realize their dream of an affordable ‘Habitat sweet home’.”
Those wishing to take part in more of a community event are invited to pre-order and purchase their kits, book one of four available building shifts, and then construct their house, together with family or friends and others gathered together at the Gingerbread Build event in the rotunda at city hall.
