Ontario workplaces are being encouraged to focus on preventing struck-by incidents as the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) marks Struck-by Awareness Week from April 20 to 24, 2026.

The campaign is aimed at reducing one of the leading causes of serious injuries and fatalities across Ontario’s construction, transportation, electrical utilities and aggregates sectors.

A struck-by incident occurs when a worker is hit by a tool, material, piece of equipment or vehicle. IHSA notes these incidents are a major contributor to workplace injuries, alongside falls, and are often preventable through planning, training and hazard controls.

The association is urging employers and workers to use the awareness week as an opportunity to identify site-specific risks and reinforce safe work practices.

To support participation, IHSA is promoting its Struck-by Prevention Toolkit (W017), which provides resources designed to help employers build prevention strategies and deliver safety training.

The toolkit includes safety talks, guidelines, advisories, training courses, videos, IHSA Health and Safety Magazine articles and Safety Podcast episodes.

IHSA says the materials can be used to develop daily safety activities, refresh training, and support discussions about controlling struck-by hazards on job sites.

Employers can mark the week by organizing daily safety activities using the campaign schedule, holding site safety stand-downs focused on local hazards, and incorporating moments of silence to recognize workers killed or seriously injured on the job.

The association says the goal is to prompt reflection as well as practical action to prevent future incidents.

Struck-by Awareness Week runs April 20–24, 2026, across Ontario workplaces.
