The City of Mississauga has invested about $50 million across 16 construction projects to repair, maintain and expand its transportation infrastructure, like roads, sidewalks, bridges and trails, and reduce flooding through stormwater management.

“While construction may cause temporary inconvenience, it plays an essential role in any city’s growth and development. Ongoing construction and maintenance of our infrastructure enables goods, services and people to move safely and efficiently around our city,” Geoff Wright, Commissioner, Transportation and Works, said in a December statement.

“I want to thank Mississauga residents for their patience and co-operation during construction season, as well as the crews and city staff who work hard to complete this critical work with as minimal disruption as possible.”

Construction on roads will continue through the winter.

“An example of a major construction project would be the Goreway Drive improvement project,” said Sam Rogers, director, infrastructure planning and engineering services. “Goreway Drive is a major road connecting Mississauga and Brampton. Drivers have been experiencing major traffic days for decades.

“In partnership with the City of Brampton and CN Rail, construction has started on the overpass bridge that will improve traffic flow, reduce vehicle emissions as traffic delays are reduced, enhance road safety and improve the quality of life for local residents.”
