Ontario Construction News begins its daily publishing schedule next week on May 1.
The publication of a newspaper that qualifies as a daily construction newspaper under Ontario Construction Act regulations represents an ambitious but attainable enterprise – combining traditional journalistic principles with online technologies to create an economical, yet effective publication.
“We’re beginning to accept certificate and notice advertisements as mandated by the Act,” said Jason Chase, who oversees advertising in the new publication. “The process with our publication is the same as elsewhere – only our prices will be up to 50 per cent lower than the Daily Commercial News.”
The reason this publication is possible is because of regulatory provisions in the Act that allow the newspaper to be digital rather than printed. However, outside of the lack of paper and presses, Ontario Construction News will have the look, feel, and content of a regular specialized construction trade newspaper for the province’s construction industry.
“Through our alliance with DataBid.com, we’re able to publish comprehensive leads and project opportunity resources,” said publisher Mark Buckshon. “We’ve also co-ordinated with municipalities and public agencies to report on tender opportunities, which we are making freely available on our website, as well as in the form of boxed ads within the PDF newspaper.”
Current online DataBid.com data is available for subscribers who register at ontarioconstructionnews.com. Back issues and deeper data will be available for paid subscribers. Paid DataBid.com subscribers can obtain, on request, complete online access to the newspaper.
“At the outset we’ll make our daily news coverage free to readers, but we anticipate we’ll put more of this material under a paywall in the future,” said Buckshon. Nevertheless, we want the newspaper to be readily available, largely free, and completely informative to the Ontario’s construction community.”
