Three companies have been selected to deliver the Ontario Line Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations contract, with the team of Pape North Connect selected to deliver the infrastructure.
Pape North Connect is a joint venture between Webuild Civil Work Inc., Fumento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) Canada Ltd., and Arcadis Professional Services (Canada) Inc., selected based on what Infrastructure Ontario describes as “an open, fair, and competitive procurement process overseen by a third-party fairness monitor.”
The team will deliver the contract, which will include 3 kilometres of twin tunnels under Pape Avenue from the Gerrard portal to the Don Valley bridge with two tunnel portals at Gerrard Avenue and Minton Place.
The tunnels will also connect with an underground station at Pape Avenue and Danforth Avenue, which will be in interchange with the TTC’s existing Pape Station on Line 2, with another underground station at Cosburn Avenue and Pape Avenue. The contract also includes a rail switch/ crossover in the tunnel near Sammon Avenue.
The selection of Pape North Connect is the result of an extensive preliminary procurement process and is expected to result in an 24-month construction period for the development phase of the project, with early works on the project possible during this phase, IO says in a statement.
The scope of work for the contract includes:
- Three kilometres of twin tunnels underneath Pape Avenue between the Gerrard portal and the Don Valley bridge
- Underpinning of the existing TTC Pape Station on Line 2.
- Two underground stations (Pape and Cosburn) and two portals
- Three emergency exit buildings/emergency services buildings
- A rail switch/crossover in the section of tunnel near Sammon Avenue
- Interface with Line 2 TTC subway
Once the development phase has been completed, Metrolinx will be able to sign a final target-price agreement with Pape North Connect for the detailed designs and a negotiated price. The team is committed to working with Metrolinx to ensure the successful delivery of a safe, reliable, and sustainable transit system, the statement says.
