How are you enjoying the arrival of Spring and warm days? I am sure road construction will start picking up and projects across the province will start to progress faster with nicer weather.
Hard to believe a fundraising campaign we started last September for the Niagara Children’s Centre Help Kids Shine 2025 Campaign will be wrapping up in a few weeks on May 31. One dollar from every Form 9 or other notices advertised in our daily construction newspaper the Ontario Construction News from September 1 2024 until the end of May will be donated and presented the first week of June when the total we raised will be announced.
I want to start by thanking all the clients who are a part of this campaign that is very close to my heart, simply by choosing to do business with a Canadian owned and operated daily construction newspaper you will also support a great cause. The reason I choose to support the Help Kids Shine 2025 Campaign is because my family has been using the centre for almost four years now to support our daughter Aubrey who was born in December 2020.
A year after her birth she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and the centre has helped us navigate physical therapy, getting her mobile and a positive place to interact with peers who have disabilities. This summer she will be participating in the Challenger Baseball program Monday nights run through the Niagara Children’s Centre. Aubrey is a happy and very mobile young lady who uses a wheelchair and walker to get around school which she started last Fall. Long term prognosis is positive with her being able to live an independent life with mobility supports. Each day she figures out new ways to navigate life and her progress is amazing to witness.
Each year we continue to adapt our home for our daughter and her needs. Our biggest project to date was the construction of a 30-foot ramp last Summer to get her from the house to the bus each morning. Smaller but just important projects like having passive door handles installed so she can navigate doors much easier whether she is in her chair, walker or even knee walking are just as important. Our big plan for this year is replacing our jacuzzi tub with a new accessible low-profile shower with a bench and safety bars installed by September so she can be more independent.
Nothing in life prepares you for raising a child with a disability, however having family, friends and a place like the Niagara Children’s Centre to turn to help support your child on your journey is important. You can see my daughter’s profile below and even make a donation towards her campaign:
