Atria Development discovers savings and environmental sustainability through comprehensive Enbridge program

Atria has successfully incorporated Enbridge Gas Distribution’s Savings by Design program in its new Y Lofts Project in downtown Peterborough.
This comprehensive Enbridge program provides developers and builders with the encouragement and tools to ensure energy efficiency within a sustainable and user-friendly environment. The program also offers support and financial incentives during the design, construction and commissioning stages of building and housing projects.
Atria’s Y Lofts project involves the restoration and redevelopment of Peterborough’s historic downtown YMCA. This six-story, 134-unit residential building will include energy performance qualities including a green roof, electrical vehicle charging stations, in-unit tri-sorting waste disposal, energy efficient glazing, climate control heating/cooling systems customized for the users, Energy Star rated appliances, and energy efficient plumbing and lighting features.
During the design phase, Atria discovered that its Y Lofts Project had achieved energy savings results that were 24 per cent higher than required by the Ontario Building Code, translating into an overall greenhouse gas reduction equivalent to 68,605 kg. of C02 , which exceeded the Savings by Design program targets.
Atria recognizes that homebuyers today are sophisticated and prefer to live in energy efficient homes that minimize impacts on the environment. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that they save money in the process.
