Linda Ku is a mechanical technologist, senior estimator and office manager with GTA-based Aerodynamics Inspecting Consultants Ltd. (AICL). Through more than 25 years’ experience in HVAC systems engineering, estimation and reporting, she has developed a wealth of experience and expertise in this male-dominated industry.

In her current role, she applies best practices of quality plans and work instructions to ensure accurate communications and successful material flow throughout projects. She works with TAB Engineers (???) and technicians to identify root causes and solutions, ensure project process implementation, and suggest solutions for the processes that aren’t meeting the continuous improvement objectives.

Ku is an expert in air and hydroid systems’ testing adjusting and balancing, focused on building automation systems verification, and testing noise and vibration, laboratory installation, HVAC systems components and duct/pipe leakage.

She also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Physics and a Master’s Degree in Environment Engineering.

Ku says mechanical engineering is challenging and she must balance being a woman and working in a predominantly male field. “As I love what I do, I find a way to do it like a man, to work like a man.”

She says with AICL she feels very supported by the men she works with and that they appreciate female engineers can sometimes provide an extra level of attention to a project.

“I enjoy my work. The experience of working with men has helped me in my professional career, and developed my skills as part of a team working to have all projects completed successfully.

Ku is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA).
