York University recently completed its request for supplier qualification process and shortlisted four general contractors to participate in a request for proposal process for the construction of the university’s new Markham Centre Campus.

The shortlisted firms are: Bird Construction Group; EllisDon Corporation; Eastern Construction Company Ltd.; and Walsh Canada.

A request for proposal will be issued to the four shortlisted general contractors at the end of August and will close in October 2018.

Last year, the Ontario government announced $127.3 million for the new campus, which will be built on about five acres of land contributed by the City of Markham. Located near the corner of Enterprise Boulevard and Rivis Road and the Markham Pan Am Centre, the new campus is anticipated to accommodate up to 10,000 students in future phases.

The university is expected to select a general contractor for the construction of the Markham Centre Campus in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Construction of the new campus is expected to begin in November.
