It’s a simple charitable idea with a clear goal, and for that reason it is succeeding.
The Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA), serving communities in western Ontario including Kitchener and Waterloo, has set out to provide 125 children with “backpacks for success” — backpacks with school supply essentials geared to different grade/age groups.
The association says on its website:
This program provides underprivileged kids in our area with the basic essentials they need in order to succeed in school. This program relies on the generosity of you, our members. As we ask for you to donate either cash (and we will do the shopping for you) or basic school supplies to our office. We will then distribute the supplies we gather to schools in the area of your choice.
GVCA believes very strongly in this wonderful cause and believe this program could make significant change in our community. All we ask is for you to donate anything you can, in order to help the youth in our area succeed.
Members can donate supplies or cash, and the contribution range is not too costly; from $45 for a junior elementary to $80 for a high school student. Finally, members can elect to support kids in their own community (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge or Guelph.)
