SLC Environmental’s roots in the restoration and abatement industry began more than 17 years ago, with a focus on providing quality asbestos and mould remediation services. The company’s capabilities have grown since then to include lead removal, crime and trauma scene clean up, odour control, and clean ups as the result of fire and water damage.

Business development manager Tony Petruccelli says the company actually began working on a large commercial project, adding other markets and capabilities, including insurance work, over time. “Our expertise in indoor air quality grew from there and now we work with a range of clients including commercial, environmental consultants, small to large scale construction companies and property managers.”

He says SLC Environmental is on the prequalified bid list with many key general contractors and has worked across a large local geographic area from Windsor to Pickering and Barrie, including the GTA and downtown Toronto.

The company employs a full-time staff of 10 and numerous part-time staff but can double or even triple its staff to take on larger projects.

Having control over who does the work, understanding their capabilities, and ensuring they and the jobsite is protected, is key in this industry. Petruccelli says, “We maintain our equipment, especially our negative air units, to perform at 100 per cent particulate removal and focus on 100 per cent containment on jobs.”

Staff are equipped with personal protective equipment including protective clothing and respirators that are fit tested.

Petruccelli says SLC Environmental’s standards are always improving for safety and reducing contaminants, which means the company must be diligent at all times to meet and works to exceed, where it can, the requirements.

While he says he is involved with scoping out new project sites, advises on more complex projects and is involved with the bid process, the company’s site supervisors and crew leaders are well trained and able to handle any situation. “Our company culture is based on providing professional service that is efficient and timely. Every one of our key people is more than capable of delivering on this. Combined, our supervisors have in excess of 20 years’ experience, so they know what they’re doing.”

One of SLC Environmental’s other commitments is follow through to ensure timely completion. Petruccelli says the team knows each job schedule, when they need to start and commits to finishing on time. This is value added to the client as the customer then gets to proceed with their restoration on time.

“We are trusted by our clients based on our experience and knowledge. We apply what we’ve learned and what we know works best to each and every project.”
