Ontario’s construction industry two-month “Open Period” is nearing its conclusion. This season, tied with expiry of mandatory three-year contracts in the unionized sector on April 30, sets off applications for union “raiding” or decertification. Generally, no one issues news releases about these developments, so you need to gather information from Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) applications and filings.
This week, Ontario Construction Report discovered a resource that helps show in near real-time the labour relations activities within the industry, the OLRB Weekly Applications report available from the Ontario Workplace Tribunals Library. (The library also provides links to OLRB decisions — at the time of this posting, they were available through April 1 2016.)
Librarian Kevin Jenkins says the list is released each Wednesday. He sent the most recent notification/list with confirming email.
We’ll post the weekly report as it arrives. If you wish to receive it directly, you can request it at this link.
